Tips for Airline Tickets
1: Set Alerts for Flights
One of the biggest tips for booking flights is this: just because you’re ready to buy airline tickets doesn’t mean it’s the right time to buy it. If you want to make sure you’re getting a good deal, don’t rush. Make sure to do your homework. 9 times out of 10, you can get a better deal. You just need to know what to look for and when. That’s where getting notified about good airline tickets comes in really useful!
Hopper Price Alerts
If you know exactly when you’re traveling, Hopper is a great app to have in your search tools. Hopper does this awesome thing called price predictions. Put in the dates you want to travel and to where.
Hopper will automatically send you flight alerts when your airline tickets are cheapest. It only works for economy tickets, but you can exclude basic fares and connections. I saved $600 on a ticket to Colombia for New Year’s break by watching the flight.
Other sites/apps that do price alerts include Skyscanner and AirfareWatchdog. Personally I prefer Hopper for the price predictions, so I stick with them.
Sign Up for Scott's Cheap Flights
When you’re looking for some inspiration but you haven’t picked your destination yet, Scott’s Cheap Flights is a great little tool. Even on the “free” version, you get a daily email with cheap fares for that day. Scott even tells you how long the deal is expected to be good for.

Airline Loyalty Newsletters
Do you have a particular airline you like traveling? (Personally, I live for Delta). Airline loyalty goes a long way in lots of cases. Tickets usually go on sale when there is an under-sale on the flight. Keeping an eye on your favorite airlines can tip you off to good deals.
Sign up for newsletters to get promotions on airline tickets with that airline. Frequent fliers especially get great email promos for miles redemption discounts. Being loyal to a particular alliance has long term benefits besides just cheap flights.
knowing when to book
The best time to book airline tickets is whenever you’re satisfied that you’re getting the best deal. If you keep an eye on the flights you want, you’ll know what the normal price is. That means knowing when it goes down, and when it starts to climb. Picking the right option comes down to best value for money spent (I will explore this deeper in a future post).
