12 Best Restaurants in Prague on a Budget
Guest Post by Maggie Stanton
Take it from someone who spent four wonderful months eating my heart out in Prague – there’s A LOT of great food options. Also take it from someone who was a student traveling on a budget, its totally possible to eat great food in Prague without breaking the bank. Check out this list for the best 12 restaurants in Prague on a budget (or not, the food’s great either way).
Address: Národní 22, 110 00 Nové Město
This was my go-to spot for the majority of my stay. I have very fond memories of grabbing a table by the window and watching the city down below. So many afternoons sipping on a latte, eating cake and just enjoying the atmosphere. The servers are friendly, the food is wonderful and the cafe is beautiful. I could’ve eaten there every day (and I tried). Easily one of the best restaurants in Prague, especially on a budget.
What to Eat: Beef goulash, omelette with dried tomatoes and blueberry cake (especially the cake)
Address: Strahovské nádvoří 133/3, 118 00 Praha 1-Hradčany
Peklo (the Czech word for “hell”) is actually heavenly dining. Okay, that’s corny, but it’s a very cool spot. It’s underground and was favored by many historical greats. A local brewery supplies the beer. If you’re hoping to taste traditional Czech food, this would be the place. You’ll have a “hell” of a time!
The ambiance is very Bavarian pub like. Dark yet strangely cozy and welcoming, it’s exactly what you would expect of a Czech pub. That’s why it made my best restaurants in Prague on a budget list.
What to Eat: Beef goulash and any of the house beers.
Vítězná 124/5, 150 00 Malá Strana
As far as price goes, Savoy tends to be one a bit more expensive but well worth it. Everything about it is very high-end; the interior, the presentation of food, the menu options themselves all tend to evoke a certain elegance.
It’s always packed, so book in advance if you can. It’s a splurge, but it really is delicious. I remember picking up tarts from their bakery area one night to celebrate my suite-mate’s birthday, and even outside of the restaurant in our tiny dorm rooms, the quality and class were evident in every bite.
What to Eat: Baked ham brioche bread and everything from the bakery.
Jindřišská 937, 110 00 Nové Město
I spent many a post-class dinner at Špejle, a tapas and drinks bar outside my school building. It’s an interesting concept; every food item is on a skewer. From their website, “When you wish to pay, the operator counts the collected skewers and issues you an account.”
One skewer is 29 Korunas, roughly $1.40. After about 4-5 skewers, I felt as if I had eaten a full meal and at a great price. The food is delicious and there’s a great variety. If you’re on a budget, this is one of the best restaurants in Prague by far.
What to Eat: The quiche skewer is my personal fave!

A few nights before I ventured off to Italy, my suitemates found a restaurant that claimed to be as Italian as it gets. We ended up being thoroughly entertained by the hospitality of our server and soon dug into some of the best pizza I’ve ever had. Just like Italy indeed. Hands down one of the best restaurants in Prague on a budget.
To this day, it’s still the only European restaurant I’ve found that doesn’t charge extra for bread and water. What a concept.
What to Eat: Quattro formaggi pizza is the best thing outside of Italy.
The Farm
The Farm is a cozy and wonderful little stop that prides itself on homemade goods and daily specials. I was a huge fan of their brunch menu and made several treks there most Sunday mornings to chill for a bit with some coffee and good food. There’s something soulful about the atmosphere there. It’s very quaint and lovely.
What to Eat: Fresh pasta or pretty much any of the brunch specials.
Petrská 1136, 110 00 Petrská čtvrť
My suite-mates stumbled upon this gem and suggested we all do a group dinner there. It was wonderful. It’s a great spot to chill with a group of friends and feel a little fancy for a bit. The interior is absolutely beautiful and the price doesn’t kill you.
What to Eat: Indulge in the samosas, they’re amazing!
Hládkov 703, 169 00 Praha 6-Střešovice
A lot of group dinners and post-class chats were held here, thanks in part to its close proximity to the dorms. The food is great and reasonably priced making it one of the best restaurants in Prague on a budget, but I also love this place for a different reason.
My first week at school, I got a wicked case of traveler’s flu and couldn’t handle much beyond plain toast and Sprite. It got old fast. I was so sick that walking far was not an option. When I really wanted something other than bread, I’d force myself to go here to get rice and veggies. I’m convinced it cured me faster.
What to Eat: The Kung Pao Chicken has amazing kung “pow”ers.
Na Hrobci 410/1
This too was a frequent after-class stop and study spot. While they carry cake and brunch items like waffles, they’re real strength is in their name; gelato. It’s made daily and tastes smooth, rich and sweet. I was a huge fan of the fruit flavors available, but it’s hard pick a bad one.
It’s not Italy, but it sure is pretty close. Packing on the calories is easy with all the options available. Plus it smells like heaven inside. Not hard to see why it made my best restaurants in Prague list.
What to Eat: I’m a traditional pistachio girl, but really you can’t go wrong!
Ostrovní 1448, 110 00 Nové Město
Oddly enough, Prague is a great place for burgers and Serial Burgers was my favorite. They’re serious about their burger-making, probably because they’ve got every kind of burger in the book. Rabbit, lamb, duck and more, it’s all there and it’s all really savory stuff.
A little pricier than most burger joints in the city, its still one of the best restaurants in Prague on a budget by my account.
What to Eat: I’d start out with the good ol’ double cheeseburger and venture from there.
Pštrossova 1925, 110 00 Nové Město
I originally happened upon the Globe when they hosted a book signing event with Margaret Atwood. I had such a wonderful time meeting Ms. Atwood, and the event was run spectacularly well. So well, in fact, that I knew I had to return to sample some fares.
It’s a very “American coffeeshop” kind of vibe and menu, with the nicest staff ready to take your order. It’s a great spot to buy a book and read a bit with a coffee on hand.
What to Eat: Belgian waffles with a latte – and an M. Atwood book in hand of course!
Alšovo nábř., 110 00 Staré Město
The Marina appears to be the biggest tourist trap in the history of tourist traps, so you’ll just have to trust me on this. A converted riverboat docked along the Vltava River, it offers one of the best views of Charles Castle with fantastic Italian fare.
All in all, considering its location, it’s surprisingly well-priced. Just about everything on the menu is housemade, and tastes like it too. Easily one of the best restaurants in Prague on a budget.
What to Eat: Spaghetti al pomodoro e bufala will boggle your taste buds.
Wrapping up the Best Restaurants in Prague on a Budget
I hope this gave you some culinary insight into one of my favorite cities in the world! It’s so hard to narrow down my favorite spots, so… I didn’t even try. Instead I’m just giving you all of the best restaurants in Prague on a budget and wishing you Bon appetit!
My travel obsession began when I spent four months studying abroad in the Czech Republic. Since I’ve returned home and began working a 9-to-5, my goal has been to replicate the food adventures I had in Prague.
When I was abroad, I had to use my student budget and free weekends wisely to see as much of Europe as I could. So now, I’m all about affordable travel that fits into my accrued vacation days. Follow along my journey on my Blog or on Instagram.
