Colombia
The most interesting thing about Colombia is how underestimated it is. For a country that has a strong drug cartel run reputation, it is sometimes hard to look past it’s turbulent history to see the fantastic wonders it offers.
Yet from the cities to the countryside, beaches to the mountains, there are so many incredible things to explore. The food, the music, culture and architecture make it one of the most unique places I have ever visited. Check out the posts below for more.
In November of 2018 I flew into the heart of Colombia, Medellin. With an abstract itinerary that would lead me around the country for two to three weeks, five months later, I still hadn’t left. This country rocked what perception I had and kept me circulating through the cursive-like roads. I continued to warder in and out of the pueblos, national parks, deserts, rain forests, coastal regions and indulge in the diverse gastronomy of the country. Here are a few highlights of the best places to visit in Colombia.
Cartagena is Colombia’s answer to culture and the beach wrapped up in one place. Besides the Atlantic Ocean facing landscape, and the colonial UNESCO old town, Cartagena has one more golden appeal. The street food is epic. Here’s your guide to Colombia’s street food golden center.
Known for being the industrial capital of Colombia, Bogota is not exactly a tourist haven. There are plenty of other places worth visiting in Colombia, so honestly it doesn’t rank very high on my favorites lists. For me, one day was enough to get a feel for the city. That being said, there are still some incredible things to do in Bogota.
If you’re anything like me, you’ll know a good idea when you hear one. That’s how my boyfriend and I got to experience some of Guatapé on a day trip from Medellin Colombia. How we ended up on a tour outside the city is almost as funny a story as what happened on it.
